Darkling (Otherworld / Sisters of the Moon #3) by Yasmine Galenorn

We’re the D’Artigo Sisters: Half-human, half-Faerie, we’re savvy–and sexy–operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. But our mixed-blood heritage short-circuits our talents at all the wrong times. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch whose magic is as unpredictable as the weather. My sister Delilah transforms into a tabby cat when she’s under stress. And me? I’m Menolly, acrobat-extraordinaire-turned-vampire. And I’d give my right fang to make my sire pay for killing me. That is, if he doesn’t find me first…

I am new to this genre and have not read a lot of paranormal romance. Nora Roberts’ THREE SISTERS ISLAND TRILOGY is the only series that I can compare. Yasmine Galenorn has introduced me to this genre, and I am hooked. I am enjoying this series so far and am looking forward to reading more.

The D’Artigo sisters and the rest of the cast are memorable, and each is enjoyable in their own right. They hold their own and are well rounded. I love how the sisters have their flaws because of them being half-fae and half-human. I enjoy seeing the way some humans, such as Chase, show some uneasiness or acceptance in the paranormal, making them feel real. I enjoyed the new character Roz as he fit into the story with ease and not as an afterthought character.

After reading the first 2 novels, I did not know how I would enjoy this one; I am not a big vampire person. I lean towards witches. But after reading this one, Menolly became my favorite character. I love her personality and how much she cares about her friends and family and vampire circle. Especially the way she connected to Maggie, and she herself does not know why.

I enjoyed how the murders of this story intertwined with Menolly’s background. We received bits of pieces of her background, how she felt mentally, and how she cared about her sister’s feelings on what happened in the first 2 novels. In this novel, we did not find the entire story until a little later when something happens.

The novel was exciting to read and a page-turner. The only time I put it down was when I needed to sleep, leave to go somewhere, or needed a break. Being part of a romance series, there were not too many romance scenes like the last 2 novels. The story did not call for many scenes. The ones were in there felt part of the story and any more would have felt forced.

I recommend this book and series to anyone who wants to find a new author or paranormal romance series. I am glad I found this series and took a chance.

I give this book a 5/5

Rating: 5 out of 5.
